Palma – a leading destination for boutique hotels

New Hotel Openings 2019

In recent years Palma de Mallorca has evolved as a destination in its own right offering year-round life with a cosmopolitan mix of culture, entertainment, sports, diverse architecture, designer shopping and gastronomy; from two Michelin star restaurants in the city to tapas and Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine.  This dynamic activity has led to a boom in boutique hotels within emblematic buildings, historic “palacios” and mansions. Currently, there are 32 boutique hotels in Palma located in the old town and central shopping areas, and in 2019 there will be at least two more openings.

Latest openings:

Can Bordoy Gran House & Garden (Palma Old Town) – 5 star deluxe

The new Can Bordoy hotel is a spectacular restoration of a historic mansion dating back to Medieval Times by the local award winning architectural practice, Ohlab.   Located in in the heart of Palma’s old town, Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden features 24 suites; all exquisitely decorated with an eclectic mix of velvets, textured wall coverings, bespoke room bars, designer chairs, decadent sofas, antique Chinese cabinets, hidden television screens that serve as mirrors and ample bathrooms with deep bathtubs.

The public areas include a large bar overlooking the 750 m² garden, one of the largest private gardens in the Old Town. Extensive planting of more than 70 different species surround the garden (including the original cherry trees and an ancient olive tree) and provide privacy around the guest swimming pool.  Inside, the main dining area leads onto the garden terrace where chef, Andrés Benítez, who has seven years’ experience working in Michelin star restaurants, has created a menu with the focus on local and traditional Mediterranean cuisine.

The hotel’s interiors are full of surprises; a private dining room with plants from the exterior trail up along the ceiling creating an original green canopy, another area features a ceiling festooned with decorative birdcages where afternoon tea will be served. In the basement, a spa area has been created within the original exposed 17thcentury walls, complete with Jacuzzi. Prices start at 350 euros per night to include breakfast and local tax. www.canbordoy.com
