Palma, April 2024.  Over the past 20 years Mallorca has moved away from its focus on sun and sand to a year-round destination.  Every season has its own charm especially in springtime when the days are warm enough to enjoy the island’s mild climate and outdoor living.  This is when Mallorca’s natural environment comes alive from its fields of almond blossom to spring flowers with their distinctive colours and aromas.  Herewith a roundup of activities from sporting, gastronomic and nature-related/ cultural events.

Picnic and wine tasting in the Sierra Tramuntana

A stroll through the countryside and Mediterranean forest, enjoying wonderful views at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana with a carefully prepared picnic basket full of Mallorcan delicacies. It what a family-run agroturismo called Finca Rondaia is offering guests this year. Located near Esporles, just 15 minutes from the centre of Palma, it’s ideally located to explore the island.  Rondaia features 4 suites and 4 villas with kitchenette and private terrace.  Prices start from 257€ to 620€ per night.

The Mallorcan owners of Rondaia also cultivate their own vines and wine tastings can also be organised for guests ranging from a simple tasting with picnic, through to a tour of the vineyard followed by a traditional Mallorcan lunch.  Available to both guests and external clients, wine tastings from 25€-125€ per person.  Picnics from 75€ per person.

From farm to table…

Eating outdoors, in the middle of nature, is something you can also experience with Terragust. Now is the season for fresh juicy oranges, strawberries, and cabbages – and soon, in May, apricots will start to be plentiful.  Terragust’s chefs prepare alfresco menus cooking with fresh island produce which is the best way to get to know the immense variety of local produce.   These menus are served – weather permitting – in the countryside, a unique and unforgettable experience.  The four-course lunch with wine and tour costs 70€ per person and15€ for children under 12 years.  For bookings and information on the Terragust restaurant.

Glamping

For those who want total immersion in Mallorca’s countryside, The Glamping Company provides individual and personalised experiences and events in luxury tents, with a series of sustainable retreats planned, in conjunction with Sadhana Works, to experience Mallorca’s nature in its purest and most direct form.  Prices on request.

A Mallorcan Nature Sanctuary for all the family

Natura Parc is a sanctuary for over 500 species of animals located in the heart of the countryside and is approximately 25 minutes’ drive from Palma and is open to all the family.  It covers more than 33,000m2 of wooded park, where visitors can interact with the animals in specially designated areas.  On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, visitors can also bring their own food and enjoy a barbecue on open grills supplied by the organisers. Entrance fee: children from 3 to 11 years old 9€ (residents 7€), from 12 years old 15€ (residents 11€).

Marathon event

Spring is the ideal time to practise sport in Mallorca with the island’s mild and sunny climate.  Throughout spring major competitions take place such as the Long Course Weekend DUO on 20 and 21 April 2024 in Colonia de Sant Jordi.  Competitors can take part in a full/or half marathon and there is also a children’s race.

Palma International Boat Show

April kicks off the yachting season, traditionally the Palma International Boat Show (PIBS) from 25 to 28 April 2024. Boat enthusiasts can admire and try out all kinds of boats on display, from super yachts to the latest recreational craft and handcrafted wooden electric boats.    Visitors will be able to try out an eBoat in Palma’s Parc de la Mar, on 27 April, during a special exhibition designed to raise awareness of sustainable mobility.

Mallorca Tennis Championships

From sea to land – the Mallorca Country Club is preparing for the island’s international annual Mallorca Championships. Some of the best tennis players in the world will attend this ATP Tour event, which will be held from 22nd-29th June:.

Holistic courses and retreats

For wellbeing there a range of yoga events organised by Sadhana Works:

Mariana Harpreet, founder of Sadhana Works in Palma, and Gurmukh, the world’s leading figure in this discipline who is over 80 years old, are leading a kundalini yoga retreat for women from the 7th to the 12th of May.

In addition to other retreats and trainings, on October 10th they are organising a longevity retreat with the guru Deepak Chopra.

Weekly markets, annual fairs offer something for all the family:

Each town and village throughout Mallorca have a weekly market… and annual fairs throughout the year on different themes.

For example, the traditional Wine Fair is held in Pollensa  from 27th – 28th April, when the majority of more than 70 wineries in Mallorca will exhibit their wines, which can be tasted and purchased.

The Farmers’ Market in the luxury marina of Puerto Portals will take place on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of May. Almost 30 exhibitors will offer quality local products: handicrafts, ceramics, textiles, painting, fashion, cosmetics, fresh farm produce and gastronomy. All the products are km0. The offer is complemented by a programme of activities for all ages.

A few kilometres further west at Port Adriano, the AfterSun Fest on May 18th will kick off their events for the season featuring a pop-up market with performances by urban artists, more than 20 fashion, accessory and decoration brands, gastronomy, and performances for the whole family.

The Capdepera Medieval Market will be held on the 17th, 18th, and 19th of May. The streets around the castle are transformed into a medieval landscape, decorated with banners, coloured ribbons and painted wooden shields. At the market, you can buy typical foodstuffs, handicrafts, and textiles, among many others, and watch exhibitions of crafts such as blacksmiths, carpenters, jugglers, cobblers, magicians, embroiderers and many more.
